Animal experiments and modern, animalfree research methods are seldom part of school curricula. The German Society Doctors Against Animal Experiments has launched its new school project which aims to change this. The project is directed at principals and teachers for whom inspiration and numerous materials are freely accessible at www.tierschutz-in-der-schule.de. The materials were developed in cooperation by teachers and scientists for scholars of various age groups. Contents may be chosen according to subject, e.g. biological differences between humans and animals, ethics, legal aspects, and include worksheets for individuals and groups, proposals for discussions or school projects, videos, plays and brochures. The society also offers to invite teachers of animal protection to schools for single lessons or project days on this subject. Currently, ten such specialized teachers are active in different regions of Germany and volunteer for the society. The society welcomes applications of further volunteers who wish to support this project.
