The Centrum für Ersatzmethoden zum Tierversuch (CERST), headed by Prof. Ellen Fritsche, will receive € 500.000 in 2018 and will become a state institute of North Rhine Westphalia in Germany. This was decided by the state parliament on January 17. CERST was established as a project at the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine in Düsseldorf and initially funded with € 300,000 per year. Making it into a state institute shall increase the opportunities for further cooperations and grant applications.
