Germany records drop in number of experimental animals in 2023
Posted on 2024-12-17The Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR) has announced the number of animals used for scientific purposes in Germany in 2023. The drop of 16% in comparison to 2022 to 1.46 million vertebrates and cephalopods continued the downward trend for the fourth consecutive year. In addition, the number of animals killed for organ or tissue use dropped by almost 6%, and the number of surplus animals killed without having been used in experiments dropped by about 22% to 1,37 million animals.
