Cefic Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI) call on probabilistic and deterministic uncertainty analyses
Posted on 2025-05-29Cefic’s Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI) has launched a new call (AIMT12) to explore and compare the quantitative uncertainty associated with traditional animal-based versus New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)-based hazard characterisation. As the shift toward Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) progresses, the project seeks to build regulatory confidence by identifying key factors that influence uncertainty across different methods.
The selected project will carry out probabilistic and deterministic uncertainty analyses, in line with WHO/IPCS and EFSA guidance, on 2 to 4 substances using both traditional and NAM-based tools (e.g., Defined Approaches, AOP-based methods). Case studies must allow for direct comparison between in vivo and in vitro/in silico data to inform how safe exposure levels are derived under each approach.
With a €250,000 budget and a 1-year duration (starting Q4 2025), the initiative aims to produce peer-reviewed results, contribute to regulatory decision frameworks, and highlight where each method introduces uncertainty. Deadline for proposals is 27 June 2025.
