Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are still the major cause of death in industrialised countries. The available therapies need improvement and specially tissue specific drugs. We have tested the possibility to establish cell lines expressing tissue specific cardiac muscular or smooth muscle L-type calcium channels. The cardiac and the smooth muscle L-type calcium channel differ in the IS6 segment of the a1C-gene. The established cell lines expressing the a1C- a or the a1C-b splice variants of the a1C-gene can be used for the screening of tissue specific calcium channel blockers.
